Queen's South Africa Medal, 6 bars: CC, OFS, Joh, Dia Hill, Belfast and SA01 engraved to 42 Pte M.R.Newman SAMR, some edge bruising, almost certainly has been renamed and the pin holding the bars has been removed and refitted although it is not a modern alteration, toned gVF and scarce
Marcus Richard Newman served in the 2nd South Australian Mounted Rifles as Trooper, and in the 8th Aust Commonwealth Horse, no.134 as Q.M.Sergeant. Listed in Murray for the 8th ACH but not shown for the 2nd SAMR (a check of the numbers from 40-49 has them all listed except No.42 so Murray obviously missed this one); George Newbury's book on South Aust recipients of Boer War Medals lists both. Note: the 2nd SAMR had impressed medals |
