Photographs and printed ephemera relating Hattams Stores including photograph of staff outside the Hattams Carlton Store c.WWI period, three photographs showing Hattams family members and the entire group of Hattams employees taken at the Hattams Bros Grand Ball, Melbourne Town Hall in August 1922; photographs taken at Mount Buffalo National Park August 1911 signed by touring party members including P.Hattam; extensive assortment of papers, correspondence, documents etc concerning the Hattams and related families of Rayner, Walker and Dyson, much of genealogical interest including certificates of birth, baptism, inoculation, Last Will & Testaments and Undertaker's accounts, mainly 19th century with some as early as 1840 or earlier. An invaluable group for anyone wishing to undertake research of this family, which was at one time a household name in Melbourne. All are original documents from the time, some are extremely difficult to obtain including the Wills and the very early certificates of birth.
Hattams Drapers Stores, established 1879, became one of the most prominent Manchester and Boys & Menswear stores throughout Melbourne and the metropolitan area.
