Ornithology; Schodde, Richard and Richard Weatherley, "The Fairy-Wrens, a Monograph of the Maluridae", Lansdowne Editions Melbourne 1982, folio 203pp, colour plates and monochrome drawings by Richard Weatherly, publisher's full blue morocco. Limited to 500 copies, numbered and signed by the author and artist, a fine copy in original cardboard shipper.
Dr Richard Schodde is a principal research scientist at CSIRO. In the mid 1980's Dr Schodde and his colleague Dr Les Christidis were criticized by the scientific community, particularly those in the northern hemisphere, for theorizing that the World's songbirds originated from Australia and not Europe as was previously believed. The advent of DNA sequencing in the 1990's provided unequivocal proof that Dr Schodde's theory was indeed correct, and that the world's 4500 species of songbirds can all be traced back to Australia |
