In 1996, Downies was appointed as the official agent for the Royal Australian Mint in North America. Since that time, we have created a significant niche in the US and Canadian markets, with clients in South America as well!
The company runs a full mail order operation to service North America, based in the USA at Newport Beach, California. A committed, enthusiastic team, our staff at Newport Beach are well versed in Australian numismatics and are ready and waiting to help you with your order.
Regularly attending coin and banknote shows across the US, we are active buyers of Australian material. This unusual source of material benefits all of our clients across the globe, as some remarkable opportunities have emerged from North American shores. Downie’s Ltd also regularly attends shows in Europe and Asia as well, and act as agents for a number of international mints.
The European Frontier
In 1995, Downies began operating in the United Kingdom. Providing access to the vast European coin and banknote market, our UK Office has put us in a position to acquire pieces not normally available to Australian collectors.
On hand to attend all the key numismatic auctions, our clients have been treated to some of the world’s most renowned coin finds – the Douro Gold Sovereign Cargo, the English Civil War Thames River Find, the Reigate Hoard of hammered silver and many more.
The staff includes an approved valuer under the Australian Federal Taxation Incentives for the Arts (TIFTA) Scheme as well as expertise in design and publishing.
