Description:

A prestigious opportunity for the serious banknote collector, we have a single example of a tremendously rare 1888 Specimen £5 of the London Chartered Bank of Australia.

Established in Britain in 1852, the London Chartered Bank of Australia was one of the great success stories of the Gold Rush.

Indeed, by 1859, the bank had branches in Melbourne, Sydney, Geelong and nine on the Victorian goldfields. Unlike many of its counterparts, the bank survived the crash of 1893, and continued to issue notes from the £1 to £100.

A superb, pristine example, the note before you was printed as a 'Specimen' issue by Bradbury Wilkinson & Co London.

Bearing a perforated Specimen inscription, and defined by the beauty and rich colours of the designs, this eye-catching Gold Rush artefact is excessively rare.

Never before offered by Downies, this opportunity deserves the most serious of consideration.
