  • Carries the First Prefix – XAA – of the very first $20 issue!
  • Issued at decimalisation in 1966 – bears Coombs/Wilson signatures.
  • Seldom set aside, scarce in the upper echelons of quality.
  • Irresistible opportunity to secure this key type in Uncirculated quality.

One of the first banknotes issued into circulation at Decimal Changeover, we are delighted to present the First Prefix issue of Australia’s first $20 note!

Arguably the greatest milestone in our currency history, decimalisation took place in February 1966. Alongside the six coinage denominations, four banknotes were unveiled – the Coombs/Wilson $1, $2, $10 & $20. The first $20 notes carried the prefix XAA. Naturally popular as the ‘first of its kind’, the 1966 $20 Coombs/Wilson XAA First Prefix issue is also sought after for its rarity in superior quality.

Because interest in First Prefix issues is a relatively recent phenomenon, and with the high denomination $20 representing too much spending power, the 1966 $20 Coombs/Wilson XAA First Prefix was rarely set aside at the time of issue. As a result, they are scarce in the upper echelons of quality.

A wonderful opportunity to secure this key First Prefix issue in strictly Uncirculated quality, immediate action is essential. Click add to cart now!
