The 1909P Half Sovereign mintage was minuscule - as with all Australian half sovereigns. Indeed, a mere 44,000 coins were struck, making the 1909P the second lowest mintage half sovereign of the reign of King Edward VII. A huge percentage of that tiny mintage will have been lost, or fallen victim to the profiteer's melting pot, with most of those that have survived being heavily circulated. The half sovereign was a genuine circulation coin before WWI sounded the death knell for gold as a circulating medium, and most surviving Edward VII half sovereigns are therefore very well-worn. But not the coin before you!

A pleasing example, defined by rich golden hues, clear fields and a strong bareheaded portrait of King Edward VII, this impressive example of the 1909P has been graded by NGC at AU55, the equivalent of about Uncirculated.
