Struck at the Melbourne Mint more than a century ago, as the world stood on the cusp of WWI, each 22-carat gold coin carries the 'M' mintmark on the reverse.
Issued as the storm clouds of war gathered over Europe, we are proud to present the first three gold sovereign dates of the reign of King George V.
Struck at the Melbourne Mint is 1911, 1912 and 1913, the three coins in this set are undeniably scarce in the upper echelons of quality. Whilst the natural result of the low mintages, the scarcity in better grade is also due to the role of the sovereign at this point in history. Before WWI triggered a global economic crisis that sounded the death knell for gold as a circulating medium, the sovereign was a genuine circulation coin. With so many surviving examples of pre-WWI sovereigns having suffered extensive wear, these important coins are tough-to-find in the quality apparent here.
Beautifully presented within a plush timber case with a Certificate of Authenticity, the 1911M-1913M Gold Sovereign Trio can be yours in premium grade about Uncirculated-Uncirculated condition.
