Complete an existing Australian halfpenny collection, or secure four stand-alone, sought-after halfpenny dates? The choice is yours!

This four-coin set comprises four Australian halfpenny dates, issued from 1915 to 1939. It is headlined by the RARE 1923 halfpenny, offered in pleasing Very Fine!

The most critical date of the entire Australian halfpenny series, the 1923 halfpenny was struck in minuscule numbers. It is believed to have a mintage of just 15,000! It’s scarce in any grade – and particularly so in premium Very Fine, as here.

Your set also includes the 1915H halfpenny, struck at the Heaton Mint in Birmingham, England. This sought-after halfpenny date is one of the lowest-mintage dates of its denomination, with 720,00 coins struck.

You’ll also receive an example of the 1918I halfpenny – a coin with fascinating origins! One of the scarcer halfpenny dates, this coin was struck towards the end of WWI. As the war raged, continuing to mint coins in Britain was deemed too risky. Transporting them back to Australia exposed them to being attacked en route by the German navy. The solution? To move production to Calcutta, India! The 1918I halfpenny bears the ‘I’ for ‘India’ mintmark, a memento of its extraordinary history.

The final date in this set is the scarce 1939 Roo halfpenny. This halfpenny date was issued following the Great Recoinage of Australia in 1937, when the pre-existing British reverse designs were replaced with their newer, more ‘Aussie’ counterparts. The halfpenny changeover occurred mid-way through 1939, so few 1939 halfpennies were struck with the new design! The first of its denomination to feature the iconic ‘Bounding Roo’, just 782,000 1939 Roo halfpennies were struck.

When it comes to the Australian halfpenny series, these dates are unquestionably the ‘Big Four’. With limited numbers available, you must act now!
