An unusual, fascinating memento of the Second World War, the 4 Paisa of Nepal was struck from genuine bullet shells used during battles involving the legendary Gurkhas!

The Gurkhas – a fierce fighting force…

The Gurkhas are soldiers from Nepal, or Indian nationals of Nepali ethnicity. They have long been associated with the British Army, and served with distinction during the Second World War. The Gurkhas are notorious for their fearlessness and ferocity in battle. Indeed, a British Field Marshall once said that “If a man says he is not afraid of dying, he is either lying or he is a Gurkha.”

The coin struck in their honour…

In the 1950s, a store of spent bullet cartridges retrieved from WWII battlefields upon which Gurkhas fought were discovered in a warehouse behind the Tangal Palace in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. It was suggested by General Ramshek Khan that these shells be struck as coins in honour of the valiant Gurkhas. With the number of shells limited, production of the unusual ‘holed’ coins took place for only one year.

An irresistible opportunity to hold the history of the Second World War in your own hands, these unusual, genuine legal tender coins are simply a must-have at just $19.95 apiece. Click add to cart now!
