Among the world’s most famous coins…

In 166BC, the recovery of the Port of Delos sparked a revival in Athens’ economy. This led to great demand for coinage, and the ‘new style’ Owl Silver Tetradrachm was the result. Still graced with the portrait of the Goddess Athena, with her owl on the reverse, the new type was larger than its predecessor. Scarce in the quality evident here, we have a single example in lightly toned VF.
