A remarkably well preserved relic of Anglo-Saxon times, the extensive British collection we acquired recently included a single example of a silver penny from Edward the Elder (899-924AD) - in rarely seen quality.
King of the Anglo-Saxons from the death of his father, Alfred the Great, until his own death in combat in 924, Edward's coinage is generally rare. Bearing Edward's name on the obverse, and the moneyer's name on the reverse, this superb example is seldom seen in such an excellent state of preservation. An exciting opportunity, the single Edward the Elder penny is conservatively graded at Very Fine.
