Asserting England’s claim to the French throne, Henry invaded France in 1415. Most notable for his famous victory at Agincourt, Henry conquered nearly all of France, and was named heir to the French king, Charles the Mad. A union between England and France seemed certain, but Henry died unexpectedly in 1422 – just two months before the death of the French king! Given his deeds upon the battlefield, and the lasting impact of his reign on English nationalism, all coinage of Henry V is highly sought after – particularly in superior quality.

Struck at the Tower Mint, London, and notable for what is known as ‘the scowling bust’ of this mighty military figure, the silver groat presented here is in much better-than-usually-seen quality. Defined by a well-centred, sharp strike, this medieval masterpiece is graded Very Fine – must-have at this price.
