The consummate complement to the collection above, we also have just three of the COMPLETE King George VI £1 Banknote Set in stock – also in strictly Uncirculated quality!
Issued during WWII and the postwar period, this set includes:
1938 Sheehan/McFarlane
1942 Armitage/McFarlane
1949 Coombs/Watt
1952 Coombs/Wilson
Very rarely united as a complete collection – particularly in pristine condition – the chance to secure the George VI 1938- 52 Complete £1 4-Note Collection in Unc must not be missed.
Known as a ‘quid’, the £1 is truly the ‘classic’ Australian predecimal banknote. It was the note most used in everyday life, and in many ways defines the predecimal era. The high rate of circulation has had a material impact on the number of surviving examples – and the number that have survived in top grade. With a lifespan of around a year, hundreds of millions of £1 notes were consigned to the Treasury furnaces. Of those escaping that fiery fate, only a tiny percentage remain in the supreme state of preservation immediately apparent here.
Headlined by the rare 1938 £1 Sheehan/McFarlane, and also including the very scarce 1942 £1 Armitage/McFarlane, 1949 £1 Coombs/Watt and final issue 1952 Coombs/Wilson £1, this utterly comprehensive George VI signature collection is presented in strictly Uncirculated quality.
