In a remarkably good state of preservation, we have secured a small number of genuine 1,700+ year-old terracotta seals - relics of the Holy Land with an amazing tale to tell.

In the 3rd century AD, an enormous Holy Land library was destroyed by fire. The library held thousands of papyrus scrolls - each sealed with a piece of terracotta embellished with an image created with a signet ring. The inferno may have destroyed the documents, but the fierce heat actually fired the clay and preserved the seals! But for the blaze, these seals would have crumbled to dust many centuries ago.
