The sovereigns struck during the 1914-18 Great War enable the collector to create a powerful connection with those who served Australia with such distinction in “the war to end all wars”. Struck at the Melbourne Mint in the year that Australian troops first fought on the Western Front, during the Battle of Fromelles, we have a tiny number of 1916M Gold Sovereigns available.

Uniting the timeless beauty of Pistrucci’s St George & the Dragon reverse with the distinguished features of King George V, all WWI sovereigns are scarce today. This is in part due to the low mintages, and the number melted for the gold in the century since struck – particularly to pay off international debt after WWI. The difficulty in tracking down WWI dates is also attributable to the fact that these coins are inextricably linked with Australia’s Baptism of Fire.

Offered in premium grade Extremely Fine to about Uncirculated condition, each 1916M Gold Sovereign is set in a timber case with a Certificate of Authenticity. Click add to cart now!
