New Zealand’s most famous coin

The 1935 Waitangi Silver Crown is undoubtedly New Zealand’s most famous coin. A rarity of the highest order, this key Silver Crown type is highly sought after around the globe.

Unique, one-year-only type…

Struck at the Royal Mint, London, the 1935 Waitangi Crown was issued to commemorate the signing of the 1840 Treaty of Waitangi – New Zealand’s founding document. An eye-catching, richly symbolic coin, the reverse depicts Ngaphui chief Tamati Waka Nene shaking hands with the first governor of New Zealand, Captain William Hobson, R.N., with a Crown above and ‘Waitangi’ inscribed below.

Tiny overall mintage!

Although not commemorating a particular anniversary, the 1935 Waitangi Silver Crown was still a commemorative, and was created specifically for collectors. With the New Zealand collector market in its infancy, demand was not very high, and the mintage was minuscule. The Royal Mint struck just 1,128 coins!

A rarity of world standing…

From that minuscule mintage, only a tiny number of examples are known to exist today. As a result, the 1935 Waitangi Crown is a rarity of world standing, and is considered a key element of the broader Commonwealth Series. Seldom offered, regardless of the condition, this is your chance to secure this important rarity in pristine, mint-state quality.

Pristine, mint-state, Uncirculated quality!
