JUST ANNOUNCED: QANTAS $1 COINS COMING SOON!
Australian coin collecting is set to soar to great heights with an exciting, upcoming collaboration between the Royal Australian Mint and Qantas.
The Qantas Centenary 2020 $1 Uncirculated Coin Set is due for release on 25 November 2019, and will feature eleven Qantas $1 coins. Ten of the set’s coins will be struck from the traditional aluminium-bronze, and feature designs inspired by the airline’s rich history.
In particularly exciting news for collectors, a special eleventh copper coin will pay tribute to the Australian penny. This stunning coin will take its inspiration from Qantas’ logo, which in turn was inspired by the iconic ‘bounding kangaroo’ penny design. All 11 coins are only available in this collection.
Australians on the hunt for coloured legal tender coins will not be disappointed. Each of the 11 Qantas coins will feature vivid colour accents. They’ll be struck to Uncirculated condition – and arrive housed in premium, official Qantas packaging.
“These aeronautically inspired coins will enable Australians to participate in the historic centenary of Qantas and celebrate how far our aviation industry has come," said Hon. Michael Sukkar, Minister for Housing & Assistant Treasurer, of the collection.
Each of these coins can be considered exclusive, with soaring demand anticipated across the country. Mintages of all coins have been capped at 40,000.
Qantas – or Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Service Ltd – was founded in 1920 by WWI veterans Paul McGinness and Hudson Fysh, and is now the third largest airline in the world. The coins will be available from Downies Collectables from the 25 November 2019.
