Reigning from April 193 to May 194, Niger’s coinage is scarce to rare in all grades – and especially rare in the superb good Very Fine condition available here.
Governor of Syria in 193AD, the Year of the Five Emperors, Niger proclaimed himself emperor due to the turmoil in Rome. Civil war against Septimius Severus ensued, with the superior forces of the latter triumphing. Niger was captured and executed, with his head sent back to Rome as a trophy.
