Among the most important Australian Sovereign dates, and a key acquisition for the serious Australian collector, the 1899P Gold Sovereign was the first coin struck by the Perth Mint.

Unique and historic, the 1899P is also the scarcest Perth Mint sovereign date. With controversy raging over its very existence, and businesses and banks still preferring to send raw gold either to the east coast or London, Western Australia’s fledgling mint could only produce 691,000 sovereigns in 1899. Only a tiny number of coins from that minuscule mintage would be in anything like the unimpeachable state of preservation seen here.

The one example in stock has been officially graded by NGC at MS62 – the equivalent of Uncirculated quality. – and is exceptionally rare as such. The Perth Mint’s lowest mintage, highest cataloguing sovereign, the chance to own the 1899P in this breathtaking quality demands the most serious of consideration.
