Immensely beautiful – excessively rare!

The crowning glory of British numismatics, we are delighted to present the magnificent Queen Victoria 1847 Gothic Crown.

The work of William Wyon, the 1847 Gothic Crown is arguably Britain’s most beautiful coin. To many, it is the most beautiful coin in the world. Possibly issued for the 10th anniversary of Victoria’s reign, the 1847 Gothic Crown was a daring departure from its immediate predecessors. The obverse features a stunning Gothic portrait of the Queen, and the Crowned Cruciform Shields reverse is a masterpiece. The lettering found on the edge, obverse and reverse is rendered in superbly crafted Gothic script.

A coin that, according to all reports, delighted Queen Victoria, the 1847 Gothic Crown matches breathtaking beauty with immense rarity. Likely to have been created as a ‘presentation piece’, the mintage was just 8,172! With so many lost over the years, and falling victim to the profiteer’s melting pot, this masterwork is undeniably rare.

The 1847 Gothic Crown before you is an excellent example of this iconic British type. Underpinned by strong, even toning, with just a few minor marks on the obverse, this coin has been graded by PCGS at PR58.
