George Shenton Snr established Western Australia's biggest emporium of the time in the 1860s. Issued notes seen to this date are dated 1865 to 1866 and are signed by George Snr and entered by his son George Jnr or Charles Grunther. Unfortunately, George Snr met an untimely end when involved in a shipwreck off Mandurah in 1867. His son went on to become the Mayor of Perth and a senior parliamentarian as both Colonial Secretary and President of the Legislative Council
