The First World War brought tragedy on an unimaginable scale. This heart-warming figurine celebrates the courage, perseverance and mateship that rose from these difficult times.

Nearly 40% of Australian men of fighting age enlisted to serve during WWI. Nearly two-thirds of those were injured, killed or missing. The sheer scale of loss was enormous. But out of the ashes of these difficult times, extraordinary acts of bravery and humanity emerged.

This intensely moving figurine shows an Australian soldier helping a wounded comrade to safety. Some troops were designated as stretcher-bearers, while others simply volunteered. Often this meant entering the peril of No Man’s Land, again and again, and at great personal risk. Many of these brave soldiers were formally recognised in dispatches, or awarded formal military honours like the Victoria Cross.

This cast bronze figurine stands 300mm tall, and is mounted on a timber base. It is limited to an edition of just 5,000 castings – so prompt action is recommended.
