Born of the Gold Rush, the Australian Sovereign Series began in 1855, and ended with the cessation of gold coin production due to the rejection of the Gold Standard in 1931. During that period, Australia issued seven different Half Sovereign types and nine different Sovereign types – all are represented in this utterly comprehensive collection!
The collection is highlighted by the low-mintage 1855-56 Type I Sydney Mint Sovereign and 1855-56 Type I Sydney Mint Half Sovereign issues. Australia’s first Sovereign and Half Sovereign types, struck at Australia’s first official mint, these iconic Gold Rush rarities are excessively rare and seldom offered in any grade.
