Australia’s first national currency system – the curtain falls…
Representing a major milestone on the highway of Australian currency history, this set encompasses the last four predecimal banknote types issued before the changeover to decimal currency in February 1966.
Last predecimal notes – first Elizabeth II notes!
Australia’s final predecimal banknotes were also the first Australian banknotes issued during the record-breaking reign of Queen Elizabeth II. Issued from 1953, these key note types includes the 10/- (Ten Shilling), £1, £5 and £10. An official Commonwealth of Australia legal tender issue, each note carries the signatures of Coombs/Wilson. With nearly 70 years having passed since first issued, these notes are scarce in any grade – particularly the high denomination £5 and £10 banknotes.
