LAST OF THEIR KIND – IN SUPERB UNCIRCULATED QUALITY!

Drawing the curtain down on Australia’s first national currency system, the final predecimal banknote types are a compulsory element of every Australian collection – especially when found in strictly Uncirculated condition, as here.

Issued less than a decade into the long reign of Queen Elizabeth II, Australia’s last predecimal notes were issued under the auspices of the Reserve Bank of Australia. Including Australia’s traditional banknote denominations of 10/-, £1, £5 and £10, these notes carried the nation’s most enduring signature combination, Coombs/Wilson. Radically different in design to the notes of her predecessors, King George V and King George VI, the Elizabeth II notes each carried a different portrait. All four Queen Elizabeth II 1960 Coombs/Wilson Reserve Bank notes are extremely scarce in superior grade today.

That scarcity is largely due to the passage of time, and the enormous number of notes withdrawn from circulation and destroyed by the Commonwealth Government – a phenomenon that was particularly apparent during the changeover from predecimal to decimal currency in 1966. More specifically, the 10/- and £1 notes were low denominations, and were subject to a very high rate of circulation. The short lifespan of these notes has led to the current challenge in securing them in pristine condition, as presented here. The £5 and £10 are even rarer, but for quite a different reason. As Australia’s highest circulating denominations at that time, these notes represented far too much spending power for most people to nonchalantly pop aside as a memento.

Ever increasingly tough to track down in any given grade, there is no question that the Queen Elizabeth II 1960 Coombs/Wilson Reserve Bank 4-Note Set is rarely offered in the supreme state of preservation seen here. In strictly Uncirculated condition, this is your chance to enjoy these beautifully designed, immensely historic Australian banknotes in the finest quality.

With demand for Australia’s original predecimal notes constantly on the rise, and the pool of existing examples becoming smaller every day, this is an opportunity you can’t afford to miss.
