After finishing second and third in both 2018 and 2019 Drivers Championship, the Red Bull drivers of Jamie Whincup and Shane Van Gisbergen were looking to reclaim top spot in the Supercars Championship in 2020. The new-look modern geometric design of the Red Bull Holden Racing team ensured that the Championship contenders were hard to miss on the track!

Despite rumblings of his retirement, Jamie Whincup inked an extension along with Shane van Gisbergen late Friday evening to keep the duo together for a sixth season and in a Holden through to at least the end of the 2021 season. The seven-time Champion showed that extension was the perfect move as he sealed the first pole position of the season following a breathless qualifying-shootout double at the Superloop Adelaide 500.

Whincup was at his imperious best with a start to finish victory for the Red Bull Holden Racing Team in the 78-lap race on the roads of Adelaide in the penultimate Adelaide 500. With current Champion McLaughlin pitting early in his GT Mustang and having to take more fuel on his second stop, Whincup and the team had track position and were able to easily retain the lead and cruise to the win.

The win was Jamie Whincup 's 119 th career race win and his 86 th in a Holden, moving 1 ahead of fellow Triple Eight Race Engineering endurance co-driver Craig Lowndes on the all-time tally at the time.
