AUSTRALIA'S FIRST TEN SHILLINGS NOTE
The first Australian denomination to roll off the printing press, with the 10/- being the first of our national banknotes unveiled in 1913, the 1913 10/- Collins/Allen is immensely historic. Pursued by eagle-eyed investors as much as passionate collectors, this treasured note is tough-to-find in any condition. It is spectacularly rare in high grade.
The only 10/- note type to carry red serial numbers, the rarity of the 1913 10/- Collins/Allen is largely attributable to the tiny number issued. The print-run of Australia’s first Ten Shillings note was approximately 500,000 – an incredibly small number for a denomination that would one day be issued in the hundreds of millions.
With so few printed, and the low denomination 10/- note lasting about a year in circulation, it is no surprise that the 107-year-old Collins/Allen 10/- is so rare. Indeed, it is estimated that there are approximately 40 notes in existence! A large, beautiful banknote, the example before you is one of the finest of the few.
