In 1925, the Ford Motor Company of Australia was established as the Australian subsidiary of the Ford Motor Company of Canada. In that same year, at the company’s new HQ in Geelong, Victoria, the first Australian-built Ford was completed – the Model T. While creating many fine cars in the decades that followed, the history of Ford Australia is largely defined by the Ford Falcon.
Adapted for local conditions, the Falcon’s robust design and powerful performance captured the hearts and minds of Australians, becoming part of our national identity. Praised for its strength, reliability and refined driving dynamics, the XP Falcon played a key role in the emergence of the Falcon as an Australian icon – and in Ford Australia securing a significant chunk of the Aussie car market. Produced in 1965-66, the XP was the first Ford to win Australia’s Wheels magazine Car of the Year Award.
