Issued in limited numbers to accommodate a small Australian population, the 1927 ยฃ1 Riddle/Heathershaw note is scarce in all grades. The low denomination ยฃ1 had a high circulation rate, and according to a Treasury report, was on average withdrawn from circulation after about 15 months in the 1920s. As a result, the 1927 ยฃ1 Riddle/Heathershaw is tough-to-find today.

The opening of the first Federal Parliament buildings in Canberra in 1927 was important enough to inspire Australiaโs first commemorative coin โ the 1927 Canberra Florin. Struck at the Melbourne branch of the Royal Mint, with the mintage restricted to just two million, this unique, one-year-only type is widely considered to be Australiaโs most beautiful coin.
