Issued in limited numbers to accommodate a small Australian population, the 1927 £1 Riddle/Heathershaw note is rare in superior grade – as here. The low denomination £1 had a high circulation rate, and according to Treasury, was on average withdrawn from circulation after about 15 months in the 1920s. As a result, the 1927 £1 Riddle/Heathershaw is rare in Extremely Fine to about Uncirculated condition.

The opening of the first Federal Parliament buildings in Canberra in 1927 was important enough to inspire Australia’s first commemorative coin – the 1927 Canberra Florin.
