The Perth Mint was opened amid great fanfare in 1899, with a remit to transform the rich bounty of the Western Australian goldfields into coins of the realm. Over the next three decades, the Mint struck sovereigns in each year until Australia abandoned the Gold Standard in 1931, during the Great Depression. One of the oldest mints in the world operating from its original premises, the Perth Mint maintains that grand tradition today, striking sovereigns for collectors.
Struck 100 years ago, the Perth Mint’s 1925P Sovereign is like all King George V Sovereigns – scarce in better grade today. Featuring Benedetto Pistrucci’s St George & the Dragon motif, and presented in Extremely Fine to about Uncirculated, the 1925P Sovereign is united with the Perth Mint’s 2025P Gold Sovereign Proof. An inspired work of numismatic craftsmanship, forming the perfect partner for the 1925P issue, the 2025P Sovereign is distinguished by a superb reimagining of Pistrucci’s classic St George & the Dragon design!
With only TWENTY-FIVE sets available around the globe, and demand for gold sovereigns continuing to soar, you must not miss this golden opportunity. Act now!
The Perth Mint – Australia’s precious metal specialists…
The brainchild of then Western Australian Premier, Sir John Forrest, the Perth Mint was established as Australia’s third branch of the Royal Mint during the last years of the reign of Queen Victoria.
As with Melbourne and Sydney, it was the discovery of rich gold deposits that created the need for the production of gold coins in Western Australia. A man of great vision, Forrest saw the creation of a mint as crucial to the long-term interests of the colony, and was determined to stop the flow of gold out of the west and into the east. Although suffering much criticism due to delays in construction, and spiralling costs, Forrest’s enthusiasm for the project would ultimately be vindicated.
Opened amid much fanfare in June 1899, the Perth Mint quickly became crucial to the production of gold coinage for the British Empire. Transforming the raw gold of the Western Australian goldfields into coins of the realm, the Mint struck sovereigns in every year from 1899 until 1931, becoming known across the world for the precise purity and weight of its coinage.
One of the oldest mints in the world still operating from its original premises, 126 years after striking its first sovereign, the Perth Mint remains a powerful force in the field of precious metal coin production.
