A wonderful opportunity to own some century old Australian gold, we are delighted to present the King George V Sydney & Melbourne 1925 Gold Sovereign Pair!

Offering you the chance to step back in time to the Roaring 20s, this prestigious presentation comprises two 22-carat gold sovereigns – the 1925M & 1925S Sovereigns. Struck at the Melbourne Mint and Sydney Mint respectively, both coins carry Pistrucci’s iconic St George & the Dragon, united with Australian artist Bertram Mackennal’s portrait of King George V. Importantly, the 1925S was the penultimate sovereign issued by the Sydney Mint before it closed in 1926!

The 1925M & 1925S are both scarce today – as with all 1920s Gold Sovereigns. In large part, this scarcity is due to the unknown but enormous number of 1920s sovereigns melted for the gold value. The First World War sounded the death knell for gold as a circulating medium, meaning that the sovereign was transformed from a standard coin, used in everyday transactions, to an international trading commodity. As a result, literally millions of 1920s sovereigns were shipped overseas as gold bullion.

The perfect partners, struck exactly a century ago at Australia’s first two official mints, we have the Melbourne Mint 1925M and Sydney Mint 1925S in Extremely Fine to about Uncirculated quality. A fitting standard of presentation for such prestigious, premium grade coins, the two sovereigns are united within the confines of a plush case, complete with a Certificate of Authenticity.
