Offering you the chance to step back in time to the Roaring 20s, we are delighted to present the King George V 1925P Gold Sovereign – in strictly Uncirculated quality!

Struck at the Perth Mint, the 1925P Gold Sovereign is distinguished by Benedetto Pistrucci’s neo-classical masterpiece, St George & the Dragon. The noble portrait of King George V adorns the obverse. This effigy was designed by Australian artist Bertram Mackennal – one of the few artists King George liked! The 22-carat gold 1925P Sovereign is scarce today, partly due to the fact that the Perth Mint struck a mere 1,868,007 examples. Even that meagre mintage doesn’t tell the whole story, however.

All sovereigns struck during the 1920s are scarce today – largely because of the unknown but enormous number that were melted for the intrinsic value. The First World War led to the end of gold as a circulating medium. Thus, the sovereign was transformed from a standard coin, used in everyday transactions, to an international trading commodity. Consequently, millions of 1920s sovereigns were shipped overseas as gold bullion. The Perth Mint’s 1925P would have been no exception to the rule.

A superb example, the single coin we have available has been graded by leading independent 3rd party coin verifiers Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) at MS62 – the equivalent of Uncirculated quality.
