The rare 1930 Penny
Eminently historic and unquestionably rare, the 1930 Penny was a product of the Great Depression. The worldwide deflationary spiral saw Australia's economy shrink, and the Melbourne Mint was not required to strike many coins from 1929 to 1933. No pennies were struck in 1930 - or so it was thought. It is now accepted that perhaps 3,000 were produced to test 1930-dated dies. These coins may have been released with the 1931 Penny issue, which is why this lauded type rarely turns up in anything other than well worn condition. From a tiny pool of remaining examples 'it is believed that no more than 1,500 of this illustrious rarity exist today' the two coins we have in stock are in Fine condition, and better than usually seen.
Whether you see this coin as the 'ultimate collector acquisition', or as a sensible vehicle for portfolio diversification, you must not miss this splendid opportunity to become the proud owner of Australia's most famous coin.
