Scarce today, this coin was consigned to the pages of history when the denomination was deemed too bulky for circulation.
The crown was brought in in 1937 to coincide with the Coronation of George VI. It spanned a generous 38.50mm and featured a regal reverse motif: the perfect tribute to a new King. However, its large size made it difficult to use as a circulating coin. Minting continued into 1938, but was halted just some months into the year. As a result, the mintage of the 1938 Crown is just 101,600.
