A very early issue in the Australian decimal series, struck by the Royal Australian Mint just three years after decimalisation, the coins of 1969 included the 1c, 2c, 5c, 10c, 20c and 50c. Each coin is distinguished by the classic design for its denomination, with each motif created by numismatic master craftsman Stuart Devlin. Importantly, each of the six 1969 coins is extremely scarce today and hotly pursued in Uncirculated condition.

The scarcity and consequent desirability of the 1969 Uncirculated 6-Coin Year Set is largely attributable to the generally low mintages, and the passage of more than half a century since these coins were struck. The changeover from predecimal to decimal currency in 1966 naturally required a huge number of coins. Thus, the mintages of coins in subsequent years were relatively low. In the case of the 1969 issue, the mintages of some of the coins were exceptionally low!

A key date in the decimal series, the 1969 2c is Australia 's lowest mintage circulating 2c! Astonishingly small for a low denomination, the mintage was just 12.94 million. To put this figure into context, the highest 2c mintage was 429 million, and the annual average 2c mintage was 112 million!

Heightening demand for the 1969 Uncirculated 6-Coin Year Set, the 1969 10c and 20c are among the lowest mintage issues of their denominations, whilst the 1969 50c was the very first struck in a dodecagonal format! With few coins set aside at the time of issue, and so many years having passed since struck, all six coins found in the 1969 Year Set are scarce in Uncirculated condition, as here.
