This 1999 Silver and Copper bi-metal coin is the first of 3 coins commemorating and reflecting on the on the significance of the change of millennium. The first coin symbolises "The Past" with the copper centre symbolises the richness and maturity of the ancient continent.The silver ring indicating the linking of indigenous and other cultures over time. Rising through the centre is a seedling signifying the growth of Australia as a nation. On the horizin, the Sun rising represents the combination of environment and culture into energy feeding the growth of Austalia and it people. The 2000 Silver and gold plated bi-metal coin, second in the series titled "The Present" coin designer Peter Soobik has captured an image of an Australia approaching a golden age of development. This is signified on the coin by a golden horizon - the growth of civilisation and culture - and a gowing tree, indicating unity, vigor and youth. Prominent on the coin is the sun, pad-printed in gold, the omnipresent like source unifying all time. The silver edge of the first coin in the series, "The Past", has graduated to the centre, indicating progress and the arrival of new cultures. The 2001 $10 silver "The Future" coin highlights a time when we can realise our dreams and palns, and make further preparation building on the foundation of the past and present. In this, the last of the $10 coins in the Millennium Coin Series, designer Peter Soobik has captured an image at the heart of the coin that signifies Australia's "golden" age while the mature culture is represented by the original copper colour.
