The Perth Mint’s very first gold coin collector series, the Gold Nugget Program began in 1986. An inspired concept, the series celebrated famous gold nuggets unearthed in Australia. The first Gold Nugget Program 1oz coin depicted the Welcome Stranger – the largest gold nugget ever recorded, discovered by John Deason and Richard Oates in Moliagul in 1869. The work of iconic designer Stuart Devlin, that original portrayal of the Welcome Stranger is found on this unique 40th anniversary tribute!
Struck to flawless Proof quality from 99.99% silver, the broad 40.90mm flan features Devlin’s portrayal of the Welcome Stranger set upon a map of Australia, united with a burst of stylised sun rays.
