A little more about the Mob of Six Roos $1 coin…
Struck by the Royal Australian Mint to celebrate the 60th anniversary of decimal currency, the 2026 Mob of Six Roos $1 represents a clever take on one of Australia’s most iconic, most beloved coin designs. Designed by numismatic master craftsman, Stuart Devlin, who created Australia’s original decimal coinage, the traditional Mob of Roos $1 features five kangaroos.
An inspired concept, and the perfect way to celebrate a major milestone in Australian currency history, the Royal Australian Mint has added a SIXTH kangaroo to the classic Mob of Roos motif. Each Roo represents one of the six decades since decimal currency was launched in 1966, and if you look closely, you’ll see the newcomer bounding across the top of the coin!
Crucially for collectors, the Royal Australian Mint will strike the unique Mob of Six Roos $1 type ONLY in 2026. In 2027, the $1 coin will revert to the classic Mob of Five Roos $1 motif.
