Created by Benedetto Pistrucci, the design was unveiled in 1817, upon King George III Sovereigns. It was employed upon gold coinage struck in Australia from 1871 until 1931, and was the ONLY reverse motif used on Perth Mint gold coinage from its launch in 1899 until 1931.
