A captivating tribute to a true wonder of the natural world, this official Australian legal tender coin from the Perth Mint celebrates the iconic Ulysses Butterfly in glorious full-colour!
Famed for its shimmering, iridescent electric-blue wings, and also known as the Blue Emperor, the Ulysses Butterfly is native to the tropical regions of Australia, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and the Solomon Islands. Frequently seen gliding through rainforest canopies, and symbolic of transformation and vitality, the Ulysses Butterflyโs radiant colouration is created by microscopic scales that reflect and refract light โ a natural phenomenon captured perfectly upon this coin.
Notable for the exceptional detail in the design, this striking tribute is crafted from 2oz of 99.99% pure silver. Underpinned by a rich, distinctive Antique finish, the large 40.69mm diameter flan is dominated a magnificent Ulysses Butterfly, accompanied by three smaller butterflies in flight. Vibrant depictions of native flora are also featured, including the golden blooms of goodenia and the delicate pink blossoms of Euodia โ celebrated as the Ulysses butterflyโs favourite food. Australian legal tender, the obverse carries the portrait of King Charles III.
