Struck by the Royal Australian Mint to mark 100 years since the six colonies united as a single nation at Federation in January of 1901, the 2001 Centenary of Federation 50c Series comprises ten coins – a Coat of Arms 50c, and a 50c for each of Australia’s nine States and Territories. Whilst the 2001 Coat of Arms 50c had a traditionally large mintage, the nine States & Territories coins are among Australia’s lowest mintage circulating 50c types. The lowest mintage was just 2 million, with even the highest being a mere 3 million! The annual average 50c mintage since 1966 of approximately 18.53 million puts these figures into proper context.
