Only the third Silver Proof issue of Australia’s highly sought after full-colour $2 series, we are delighted to have secured an allocation of the Royal Australian Mint’s WWII 80th Anniversary Poppy Wreath 2025 $2 C Mintmark Silver Proof Coin!
An official Australian legal tender issue, this $2 coin marks 80 years since Japanese officials formally surrendered to the Allies, ending the Second World War. Symbolising the sacrifice of all who have served during times of war, each coin is distinguished by a depiction of a Poppy Wreath, with eight flowers, leaves and a ribbon intertwined. A poignant tribute, the eight red poppies represent the eight decades that have passed since the end of the conflict.
Providing a glorious contrast with the full-colour Poppy Wreath motif, this coin is struck to immaculate Proof quality from 8.55 grams of 99.9% pure, sparkling silver. Presented within an official Royal Australian Mint case with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity, the limited edition has been set at a mere 10,000.
Given the success of its predecessors in the Silver Proof $2 Colour Series – both sold out and soaring in value – demand for this new coin will be overwhelming. With a sell-out expected, we must, in the interests of fairness, enforce a limit of one coin per household. Click add to cart now!
About the design…
Commemorating the 80th anniversary of the end of WWII, this Australian legal tender type carries a poignant, richly symbolic design.
Rendered in full-colour, the design comprises a stylised wreath of poppy plants, with eight flowers, leaves and a ribbon intertwined, with the eight red poppies representing the eight decades that have passed since the end of the conflict. Iconic symbols of remembrance, poppy wreaths are often laid at memorials in honour of those who made the ultimate sacrifice during wartime.
The origin of the poppy as a symbol of remembrance goes back to the First World War. The poppy was the first plant to spring from the shattered battlefields of northern France and Belgium, with military folklore proclaiming that the vivid red hues of the poppy were produced by the blood of the fallen soaking into the ground. Symbolising ‘the sacrifice of shed blood’, the poppy has thus long been considered the key symbol for Remembrance Day – the annual commemoration of the Armistice declared on the 11th of November 1918 that brought an end to WWI.
Beyond its importance in commemorating the fallen, the poppy quickly became synonymous with helping the living as well. Symbolising the sacrifice of all those who have fought in war, poppies were first sold to raise funds for ex-servicemen and their families as far back as 1921, and this tradition has grown stronger with every passing year.
Capturing the deeply poignant symbolism of the poppy with the power of modern minting, the Royal Australian Mint’s latest full-colour $2 forms a moving tribute to those who served the nation during the Second World War.
