Crafted from a whopping 5oz of sterling silver, and spanning a massive 63mm in diameter, this collectable colossus was struck at the Royal Australian Mint. An official issue of the 1988 Australian International Coin Fair, which was held to coincide with the Australian Bicentennial celebrations, it forms a unique and highly desirable tribute to Australia’s iconic rarity, the New South Wales 1813 Holey Dollar.
A strictly limited edition, with a mere 1,000 struck, each medallion features a design created by C.G.M. Vivian and developed by the Royal Australian Mint’s Horst Hahne. Underpinned by Proof quality fields, contrasting with frosted designs, this imposing commemorative bears a depiction of the famous 1813 Holey Dollar on the reverse, with an array of Australian native animal icons portrayed upon the obverse.
