The largest of Australia’s four standard silver denominations, the shilling and the florin are some of the most collected coins in Australian numismatics! This comprehensive collection includes A TOTAL OF 12 GENUINE AUSTRALIAN SHILLINGS & FLORINS issued between 1910- 1963. These coins have seen everything from WW1 to the Roaring ‘20s and the Great Depression. Now you can hold them in your hands!
THE SHILLING carried William Blakemore’s Commonwealth Coat of Arms during the reigns of Edward VII and George V. Illustrating the importance of the wool industry to the Australian economy, the shillings issued during the reign of George V and Elizabeth II carried a portrayal of the champion merino ram from the 1933 Sydney Sheep Show.
The highest coinage denomination when Australia’s first national currency system was introduced in 1910, THE FLORIN boasts Blakemore’s Commonwealth Coat of Arms until 1936. Updated during the Great Recoinage of 1937, the florins struck from 1938 carried George Kruger Gray’s revised version of the Coat of Arms.
