A dark, fascinating twist on one of the most popular themes in recent times, we are delighted to present the Australia’s Dark Bees 2026 $2 Lucifer Bee 2oz Silver Black Proof Coin!
From the creators of the highly sought after Australian Native Bees Silver Hologram Series, this masterpiece of modern minting celebrates Australia’s rare Lucifer Bee – Megachile Lucifer. A devilishly distinctive new species, the Lucifer Bee was discovered on the Western Australian goldfields in 2019, during surveys of a critically endangered wildflower Marianthus aquilonarius. A small, sleek, black insect, the Lucifer Bee gets its name from the female of the species, which has two tiny devil-like horns on its head!
Struck to immaculate Proof quality from 2oz of 99.9% pure silver, this eye-catching tribute captures this remarkable creature in a most interesting way. Dominating the reverse of the broad 50mm flan, the portrayal of the Lucifer Bee is inspired by scientific and entomological specimen illustrations! An official legal tender issue, the obverse is distinguished by Jody Clark’s official portrait of King Charles III.
With the mintage of the 2026 $2 Lucifer Bee 2oz Silver Black Proof set at a mere 700, this coin is almost as rare as the Lucifer Bee itself! Given the unique qualities of this distinctive release, and the demand for all bee tributes in recent times, this meagre mintage seems certain to sell out at speed.
