A unique, one-year-only type, the 2003 Volunteers 50c is a must-have for every collection – especially in strictly Uncirculated quality!
The 2003 Volunteers 50c was issued by the Royal Australian Mint to honour the nation’s time-honoured tradition of voluntary work – a tradition that stretches back to well before the creation of Australia at Federation in January 1901. Saving lives on our beautiful but potentially dangerous beaches, fighting fierce bushfires, providing assistance for the sick and elderly – to name but a few areas of voluntary work – Australia is underpinned by an unquestionably strong volunteer ethic.
Struck at the Royal Australian Mint, Canberra, the 2003 Volunteers 50c symbolises both the scale of Australia’s voluntary work, and the great diversity of those who show such commitment, self-sacrifice and often great courage in their work for the community. An official Australian legal tender issue, distinguished by the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley on the obverse, this coin will never be found in circulation in the state of preservation seen here.
