Officially beginning in July of 1909, the Age Pension has formed the core element of Australia’s social welfare system ever since, and embodies the respect Australians have for those who helped build the nation.
Symbolising the interconnectedness of the Australian community, the reverse design features two pensioners surrounded by people of all ages. Depicted in such a way as to form the shape of Australia, this symbolic motif represents the willingness of all Australians to support the elderly in our community.
