Struck from 1oz of pure, lustrous 99.99% gold, and plated in pure, sparkling 99.95% platinum, we are delighted to present the last issue in the Chess Series โ celebrating the Bishop!
The evolution of the Bishop in Chess is inextricably linked to the development of the game during the Middle Ages. Replacing a diagonally-moving Elephant that formed part of the predecessor of Chess, Shatranj, the Bishop reflects the role of the church in medieval society. Regularly advising the monarchy โ hence standing either side of the King and Queen on the chessboard โ the Bishop in Chess symbolises wisdom and insight. The fact that the Bishop moves diagonally, and can move any number of squares, symbolises the indirect and yet far-reaching influence of the church in all aspects of life in medieval times.
A fabulous finale to a much-admired program, this 99.99% pure gold Proof captures the spirit of the Bishop in Chess perfectly. An inspired work of numismatic artistry, the Bishopโs robe is adorned with a chequered pattern representing the diagonal movement on a chessboard. The weighty tome and torch he carries symbolises knowledge and foresight, as well as the strategic value of the piece in Chess, and its increasing importance as the game goes on. A clever addition, the torch features a Bishop chess piece, with the incision at the top of the piece representing a mitre โ the traditional, ceremonial headdress of bishops in Christian churches.
Prestigious and eye-catching, the Chess Bishop 2027 $100 Platinum-plated 1oz Gold Proof is also extremely exclusive. With the mintage just 99, and with the Bishopโs predecessors in the Chess Gold Series all sold out at speed, immediate action is essential. Click add to cart now!
